Zobol is the alias of Bristol based producer, live act, and DJ Jon Chmielewski, a distinctive voice in the contemporary electro landscape. Fusing elements of techno, breaks, acid, and ambient, Zobol crafts deep, emotive soundscapes rooted in themes of psychology, nature & futurism.
Inspired by the sonic explorations of cult techno pioneers Drexciya, Cybotron, & Kraftwerk as well as a deep interest in jazz, funk, braindance and other expressive forms of music. His sound channels both a forward-thinking spirit and a nostalgic soul.
Over the past decade, Zobol has released more than 100 pieces of music across various labels such as 20/20 Vision Recordings, EON, Noise To Meet You, Wave Function Records, Melodize, Haŵs, Nocta Numerica, We’re Going Deep, Gated Recordings, Nebulae & Tiger Weeds carving out a reputation for a unique and instantly recognisable sound whose work has earned the attention of leading figures in the scene, with remixes from renowned UK electro stalwarts Plant43, Carl Finlow & Nullptr further cementing his status within the global electro circuit.
A regular presence in Bristol’s vibrant underground and across the UK, Zobol’s performances have also reached international audiences in cities such as Berlin, Oslo, Paris, Warsaw & he has played alongside notable artists including DMX Krew, Adam Shelton, Jayson Wynters, MOY, Transparent Sound, Alien Communications & Alex Downey. He co-runs the Distorted Sensory Perception record label, and also curates the Bristol club night, Depth Perception. Whether tinkering away in the studio, behind the decks or performing as a live act, Chmielewski continues to explore and expand the deeper currents of electronic music.
