FoodStock 2020: Target SMASHED and extended: Let’s help FareShare South West get 2.5million meals to those in need!

We’ve got some rather exciting news! Food charity FareShare South West have smashed their target of delivering food for 1million meals in just three months to the region’s most vulnerable as part of their winter operation FoodStock 2020, with help from the Shambala team!

We want to say a HUGE thank you to every single member of our audience who donated to help hit this target, and to the army of volunteers, including many Shambalans and members of our crew family, who have worked their socks off to help FoodStock 2020 achieve it’s goal.

But we’re not stopping there!

Having successfully achieved their target ahead of time, the decision was made by FareShare South West to extend the FoodStock 2020 operation until the end of March, with continued help from the Shambala team.

We’re now working hard towards FareShare South West’s new target of delivering 2.5million meals to those in need by the end of March!

Rather than twiddling our thumbs and waiting for normality to resume, being able to diversify and put our skills to good use, whilst doing something incredibly important for our local community, has been incredibly rewarding. Since November 2020, our team have been supporting on the ground in FareShare South West’s Ashton Gate warehouse in Bristol, managing warehouse operations, volunteers, goods in, storage, dispatch and health and safety.

‘Festival management skills are infinitely transferrable to an operation like this…’

Whilst a food parcel warehouse may seem a far cry from a field full of thousands of revelers, both require swift problem solving, tip top organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage an army of volunteers.

Food parcels packed as part of the operation help bridge the gap caused by this crisis, acting as an emergency food supplier to hundreds of frontline organisations from food banks to schools to homeless charities. For those struggling to make ends meet, these food parcels provide fresh fruit and veg and hearty ingredients for hot, healthy meals.

Even the smallest donations to FoodStock 2020 make a huge difference…

  • £1 covers four hearty meals for somebody in need
  • £5 covers making a full family’s food parcel
  • £10 covers 40 meals for a vulnerable person this winter
  • £25 covers the cost of delivering food for 100 children’s meals

Donations can be made here.

We know a dispropionate amount of Shambalans (both audience and crew!) hail from the South West. If that’s you, and you’ve found yourself with time on your hands, we could really use your help – be it a day a week, a half day a week or just as a one off. Keep yourself busy, work alongside the always-kind-and-frequently-hilarious Shambala team and get the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes from doing something really, really good. Proper job!

Volunteer roles are based out of Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol. Please note that the FoodStock 2020 warehouse operates under strict social distancing guidlines, with PPE and food safety measures in place to ensure everybody is kept safe.

We’re looking for :

  • Warehouse volunteers – to pick and pack food parcels in the warehouse
  • Drivers – Over 21 with a clean driving license and recent van driving experience. You must also be physically able to help load and unload goods from the van.
  • Driver’s Mates – physically able to help load and unload goods from the van.

Again, a huge thank you to everybody who has donated, put in a shift in the warehouse or simply helped us spread the word. Let’s keep that momentum going and smash this new target!

Big love, Sham HQ x
