Akolá Tambó is a pioneering traditional bullerengue music and dance group, recognised as the first of its kind outside the Americas. Founded in the UK, Akolá Tambó celebrates the ancestral rhythms and songs of Afro-Colombian bullerengue, a genre rooted in the coastal communities of Colombia’s Caribbean region.
The group’s mission is to promote bullerengue in the UK and Europe, increasing its visibility and appreciation. Through performances and educational programmes, Akolá Tambó shares the joy, healing, and cultural significance of this tradition while amplifying the voices of maestras and maestros from Colombia’s Caribbean coast. By building a community around bullerengue, they empower participants to connect with their cultural roots and express themselves collectively.
