A virtuoso oud performer and composer, Joseph has a passion for the oud, improvisation, and musical storytelling.

His workshops often explore the maqam system (modal scales), technical skills, and blending traditional Arabic music with jazz and classical influences.
He specialises in;
– Oud Instruction: Introducing the oud’s technique, exploring its role in both traditional and contemporary music.
– Musical Style: Workshops often focus on integrating Arabic maqam (musical modes and quarter tones) with jazz, classical, and world music influences.
– Improvisation & Rhythm: Tawadros focuses on rhythmic improvisation, often showcasing complex techniques over odd rhythms.
– Genre Fluidity: focus on bringing the oud into modern contexts, blending traditional Arabic music with jazz and classical styles.
– Inspiration: He aims to inspire musicians, to look beyond standardised approaches and explore the instrument’s emotive power and versatility.

Open to musicians (and non-musicians) interested in Middle Eastern music, maqam, and world music improvisation.

Joseph will take questions from the audience too.
