Join Vic’s pop-up corn dolly workshops, offering a lively and accessible introduction to this traditional craft. These drop-in sessions are designed for high participation events, with space for around eight people at a time. Each small corn dolly a traditional style known as a harvest knot takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete, allowing for up to 25–30 participants per hour.
Using a simple and highly accessible plaiting technique, suitable for most abilities, participants will quickly learn the basics of corn dolly making while creating their own piece to take home. Along the way, we’ll explore the history, folklore, and mythology of this ancient craft, as well as the cultural significance of harvest traditions.
The workshop also introduces the qualities of heritage straw, including how it is grown, sourced, and the challenges involved in keeping this traditional material alive. A fast-paced, engaging, and informative craft experience, perfect for curious drop-in participants of all ages.
