This year, Back a Yard is powerered by SmokeLife Sound System!
SmokeLife crew started out as Sunday sessions at the Attic & producing bedroom dubstep as a collective of friends.
They cut their teeth promoting at the Tube & Croft, putting rising names like Jazzsteppa,
Clouds, Elemental and on the same bill as Bristol heavyweights Phaelah, Thinking, Octopussy, Kidkut and Forsaken.
After a run of free parties on a makeshift rig, then a forced move into a warehouse (after one too many noise complaints chased them out of normal housing) the crew picked up their first real bass bins, a set of RCF’s once belonging to Armada/Retox. The rest of the rig soon came together along with a studio, and so did jungle and DnB alongside the dubstep, as the system kept growing.
SmokeLife went on to run Dub Club’s room 2 for years at the Black Swan, alongside AFM and DNAudio at Lakota, while linking up with Brisfest to run the garden at Stokes Croft Street Fest and the Lakota stage at Rave on Avon, plus festival slots
with Bling Bar and Wellfairies.
Our sound system has been dormant for around 10 years while the crew pursued exciting new ventures and Golgot became a dad and put his focus on raising 2 kids and preparing for the future… but the time has come, they’re back.
