Inwards is the alias of multi-instrumentalist and producer Kristian Shelley. Working across modular synthesis, samplers, field recordings, and acoustic instrumentation, he creates emotionally resonant electronic music that balances playful experimentation with rhythmic depth and textured atmosphere. His work often emerges from instinctive, hardware-led improvisation, capturing fleeting, expressive moments that sit between machine precision and human warmth.
Since his 2018 debut album Diesel, Inwards has built a reputation for immersive and absorbing live performances, supporting artists including Lapalux, Forest Swords, Tyondai Braxton, Ulrich Schnauss and Adam Betts, alongside headline and festival appearances across the UK. His releases — including Bright Serpent and the recent album Free Flow — have received widespread support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, KCRW, NPR and BBC Introducing, as well as coverage from Resident Advisor, Electronic Sound, MOJO, Clash and DMY.
