Rush is a beautiful, aromatic, biodegradable, and deeply traditional natural material, long associated with heritage craft practices across the UK. All rush used in these workshops is sustainably harvested from the Somerset Levels, gathered and bundled by hand before being carefully dried for use in weaving and making.
These workshops offer participants the chance to explore the calming and tactile qualities of working with rush through a variety of projects suitable for different abilities and timeframes. Participants may choose to make quick and simple rush mats, small woven pots, or larger pieces such as a traditional rush hat.
Rush is a wonderfully relaxing material to work with, making these sessions both grounding and accessible. Whether creating a small practical item or experimenting with larger forms, participants will gain insight into traditional rural craft skills while connecting with natural, sustainable materials by hand.
