Innovator, award-winning multi-instrumentalist Malin Lewis fuses Scottish West Coast tradition with a self-made, one-of-a-kind bagpipe, joined by stars Sally Simpson (fiddle) and Ali Hutton (guitar). Their hair-tingling, philosophical, dance-inducing melodies draw inspiration from European folk, queerness, and the cosmos.
Having toured the UK, Canada, and Europe, Malin released their debut album Halocline in May 2024 on Hudson Records. A Halocline is a visible layer that forms between salt and fresh water and is home to a unique microbial ecosystem. Halocline is a metaphor for Malin’s trans identity and living in a space in between; a beautiful space between a binary.
Malin’s signature timbre comes from their deep connection to their self-built instrument. Their two-octave smallpipe opens entirely new sonic worlds, captivating audiences with every performance. Inspired by Martyn Bennett, Duncan Chisholm, and Sharon Shannon, their music is as lively as it is thoughtful.
"Ear bogglingly good piper."
