Inspired by the traditional folk story Stone Soup, this communal kitchen gathering asks what becomes possible when everybody brings something small to the table.

Led by Carrie Vallance, founder of Food Troops CIC in Redruth, Cornwall, the session will slowly build a shared pot of soup from surplus and rescued vegetables — weaving together practical food skills with conversation around community, care, resilience, and mutual support.

Drawing on seven years of running a community kitchen and garden project, Carrie will share how Food Troops rescues surplus produce from farms and supermarkets and transforms it into nourishing meals, preserves, ferments, connection, and local resilience.

As the pot simmers, so will the conversation: how do we turn waste into care? What helps people feel safe, fed, connected, and supported? What kinds of communities do we want to build when times are hard?

This is part demo, part gathering, part shared meal. At the end, the soup will be served ahead of the screening of Everybody to Kenmure Street — so the audience can walk into a film about solidarity, resistance, and collective action having already shared food together.
