Sound system culture has been used for generations, and continues to be used as a tool for political resistance against white supremacist capitalism. Join Critical youth sound system for an insight into this long and rich history, and learn how to build your own sound system. Fresh from building a soundsystem with a youth group in Oxford they will share their experiences, discuss the practical challenges and how they overcame them, as well highlighting their vision for the future as a sound system fighting against political oppression. This will be followed by a Q&A.
Critical youth sound system is a QTBPOC politically-charged sound system, birthed from the student protest scene in Newcastle and finding a home in the streets and squats of London, with connections to the squatting movement. Our work focuses on breaking down the barriers to accessing soundsystem culture for young people, QTBPOC and disabled people.
The session will be held by:

– Amo (queer Iranian organiser)
– Jeni (DJ, organiser, member of QTBPOC rave and protest soundsystems Critical Youth Sound and L.A.D.S and researcher into transformative justice in the music industry)
