Amy True

Amy True has been described as “one of the most influential and talked-about personalities in the Hip Hop, Soul, and Jazz scene,” delivering a fusion of progressive sounds alongside a steady stream of rebellious socio-political rap and soulful melodic songs since the late 2000s. Named One to Watch by the MOBO Awards, with early projects Subject of My Environment and Tryna Get By, she later became a member of heavyweight rap group Caxton Press, winning Best Hip Hop Album for Shame The Devil by Wordplay Magazine in 2012.

In 2017, she published her much-acclaimed debut solo album Eleven, showcasing Amy True’s unique crossover of genres, unifying soul and hip hop with features from renowned jazz musicians, including Nubya Garcia, Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective), Shabaka Hutchins, and Biscuit (Speakers Corner Quartet).

Throughout her career, Amy True has placed herself at the forefront of socially conscious movements. Her back catalog is packed with collaborations alongside fellow advocates of change, including being an integral part of dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah’s album Revolutionary Minds, both as a vocalist on the project and in his live tour band. Further collaborations include working with Dele Sosimi to celebrate the Black President, Fela Kuti, and she has been supported by UK rap artists Rodney P and the late TY for her talent and craft. She has also supported acts such as Public Enemy (“Amy True is so dope” – Chuck D, Public Enemy), Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def), R.A. The Rugged Man, Jedi Mind Tricks, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, and Immortal Technique, among many others.

Amy True can also be found featured on albums with hip-hop artists Akala, Logic, and iconic group Asian Dub Foundation, and as a member of the collective The People’s Army, work together to provide unity, understanding, and positive social change through music, arts, and education.

In her highly anticipated forthcoming album, Stay True (titled after Benjamin Zephaniah, as he always said this to Amy), she features collaborations with Liam Bailey, Logic, Killa P, Congo Natty, and others, including some very great musicians and producers.

Having further refined her art after a period of inner work and expansion, this long-awaited release touches on raising awareness about homophobia, police harassment, and self-love.
