Ella Dorman-Gajic

Ella Dorman-Gajic will be performing a set of her acclaimed poetry at Phantom Laundry. Ella is an award-winning writer, performer and educator working across poetry, theatre and screen. Her writing has been described as “impassioned” by the Guardian, and her poetry has been broadcast on BBC Radio. A British artist of Serbian and Austrian heritage, Ella’s work is grounded in the female experience, with an interest in heritage, coming-of-age, and sexual politics, often using humour and intimate storytelling in her performances.

Ella has performed her poetry across the UK, from the Roundhouse Stage to festival portaloos. She’s the co-host and co-founder of the sell-out poetry night Off The Chest. Her poetry has been published widely, including in journals Poetry Wales and Ink, Sweat & Tears, and she has been commissioned to write and perform poems for Lewes Women’s FC and Central Saint Martins, amongst others. She’s an alumnus of Roundhouse Poetry Collective.

As a scriptwriter, her 5-star stage play, ‘TRADE’, went on an Arts Council Funded UK tour in 2023 (published by Salamander Street). As a screenwriter, she won Best Screenplay at the Healdsburg International Film Awards (judged by Tom Waits) for her short film, about an aspiring footballer, the multi-award-winning ‘BACK OF THE NET’.
