James Shinra – LIVE

A well-respected figure on the European electronic music scene for over a decade, James first achieved wider recognition with Ball & Chain EP on Null+Void Recordings in 2015. The EP showcased his skill in crafting sophisticated electro tracks combining monster basslines with a deft melodic touch. The EP gained support from some key figures in the UK electro scene, including Bicep who invited him to do a remix and an EP (Signs) for their Feel My Bicep imprint.

James followed up by exploring the more melodic side of braindance, electro, breakbeat and rave with a string of EPs during 2017-2020 on Analogical Force (Meteor EP, Supernova EP, Reverie EP), Craigie Knowes (Darkroom EP), Feel My Bicep (Signs EP) and 20/20 Vision (On & On EP). Support came from an impressively wide range of sources, with his tracks featured in sets by DJs and artists including Helena Hauff, Jamie xx, Ross From Friends, Etapp Kyle, Setaoc Mass, and Sasha. In 2018, his well-received debut album Vital Heat saw him move away from the dancefloor and broaden his musical range in a number of directions, from laid back piano pieces to frenetic breakbeat workouts.

In 2022 James returned with Surface EP for Madrid’s Analogical Force (the epic trance-tinged electro track Ekko receiving heavy rotation by Helena Hauff) and in 2023 he released an acid house record for Bristol’s We’re Going Deep.

In 2024 he started Shinra Electro Company, a new label focussing on dirtier dancefloor tracks. First single ‘Poppin’ has been a solid feature in Bicep’s sets during 2024, getting a spin at their epic Coachella performance. 4-track EP ’Shinra Electro Company Vol 1’ soon followed and was his best-selling release on Bandcamp to date.

James shows no signs of slowing down. His long-awaited second album, ‘Meteorites’ is due for release in early 2025.

He plays wide-ranging DJ sets and acid-tinged live sets around the UK and Europe. Highlights include playing The Warehouse Project and Craig Richards’ Houghton Festival.
