A true wizard of rhythm and sound, Jinjé (a.k.a. Lee Malcolm) is a master of hypnotic grooves. As a founding member of Vessels, he’s helped shape the sound of live electronic music. His releases on Messrs. Kick & Drum and EPM have solidified his reputation as a producer who knows exactly how to tap into the primal joy of movement.
Born from the rhythmic explorations of Jinjé’s 2023 EP on Scene Unseen, A Brief Utopia is an electrifying evolution of Lee J Malcolm’s deep love for live drumming and percussion. Stepping beyond his solo production roots, this project became a vessel for high-energy, groove-driven performances, tailor-made for clubs and festivals alike.
To bring the vision to life, Jinjé enlisted an all-star lineup of musicians: Danny Templeman (Submotion Orchestra, Gentleman’s Dub Club) and Nathan Moseley (Fwar, Brolin) joined the fold early on, laying the foundation for an unstoppable live show. After the EP’s success, Earthly Measures stepped in to commission a full-length LP, now available on vinyl.
With the addition of Gustavo Andrade (sax & keys), Caroline Webb (flute & sax), and Otis Jones (bass), A Brief Utopia has fully realized its potential as a powerhouse of live, percussive electronic energy. Fresh from filming a live session at FeelGoodStudio, the band is primed and ready to transport audiences.
