In the beginning, there was Thump—a strange, funky force condensing from the primordial ooze. Then: underground house parties, backyard raves, and whispered legends across Los Angeles. And now: the Space Barn blasts off, and Thumpasaurus is ready to explore new frontiers in the Thumpaverse.
The electrifying members of Thumpasaurus—Lucas Tamaren (vocals, guitar), Henry Was (drums, production), Logan Kane (bass), Henry Solomon (sax), Paul Cornish (keys), and Ben Benjamin (visuals/pancakes)— have been honing their craft and gaining a loyal cult for their experimental shows since they first got together 2015. Known for their musicicality and theatricality, they’ve shared bills with Louis Cole, Vulfpeck, and Jacob Collier, while individual members have performed with HAIM, Ye, and Snoh Aalegra.
Fueled by relentless energy, creativity, and a touch of the absurd, Thumpasaurus conjures joy out of thin air. Their music isn’t just catchy—it’s a philosophy. Thanks to catchy choruses and memorable lessons, their songs will stick with you: from mental karate chopping all the bad thoughts, to “I’M PISSED – leave me alone” (working out anger through dance.) Fearless about the future, explorations of the Thumpaverse aren’t limited to their musical palette. Their live shows and memorable music videos feature collaborations with AI, experiments with lore and an expanded universe and iconic team-ups with visual artists and world-renowned clowns.
2023 was their biggest year yet. TikTok’s capricious algorithmic gods catapulted “Struttin’” into viral fame, landing it in an international Samsung ad and onto millions of screens. Their Struttin’ Across America tour sold out across the U.S., racking up 5 million Spotify streams. The band even made their international late-night debut on Alain Chabat’s Le Late in France, right after the 2022 World Cup.
Riding this momentum, Thumpasaurus dove into recording their third album, Hard, determined to capture the lightning-in-a-bottle magic of their live shows. “We set out to find the natural evolution of our sound,” says Lucas Tamaren. “This album showcases our growth as a live band and as individual producers.” To achieve the Thumpiest of all Thump experiences, they tracked live as a full band, and then sprinkled further funk on top. It’s stuffed full of bangers, as per usual.
The first single, “Lipstick Makeup,” is a no-nonsense banger about getting ready for a party and feeling unstoppable. Its surreal, animated music video—created with director Dylan Woodley—sets the tone for their most Thump album yet. “It’s about saying ‘fuck it’ and letting my freak out,” Tamaren explains. “Tonight is different. I’m on my way to the dance party.”
With Hard and their major international tour, Thumpasaurus is inviting a whole new wave of fans into their wild, imaginative universe. To all who have joined the journey so far—and those about to enter—let there be THUMP.
