TC & The Groove Family

TC & The Groove Family are a 10-piece collective whose music celebrates the coming together of cultures, and the community that music can provide for everyone. Originally formed in Leeds, their sound reflects the diverse musical and cultural backgrounds at the core of the project, with songs exploring grooves and genres from the UK and around the world, including afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz and grime. Driven by drummer Tim Cook (TC) and fronted by Sheffield wordsmith Franz Von, their live shows are powerful and dynamic, creating moments of euphoria and stillness to keep audiences on their toes. The band have supported the likes of K.O.G, Nubiyan Twist, Yussef Dayes and PYJÆN en route to becoming one of the most sought-after live acts on the UK jazz circuit. Notable festival performances include Glastonbury, We Out Here, Greenman, Shambala, Boomtown and WOMAD, and the group have built a steady fanbase, selling out venues across the country including the iconic Jazz Café in London, and Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club in 2024.

The group released their debut album ‘First Home’ in 2022 on Bristol label Worm Discs (Snazzback, corto. alto). Recorded and produced by Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, ONIPA), the record reflects upon home being about the people and community you share it with, rather than a set physical space. This was followed by a remix project, which saw the band collaborate with Blue Lab Beats, Nikitch and Rebecca Vasmant, and their 2024 EP ‘We Have Each Other’ – a release that channels a deep appreciation of UK bass and electronic music alongside afro-jazz sounds and hip-hop sensibilities, transmitting a message of solidarity and unity in a time of global turbulence. TC’s music has found support from tastemakers including Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova and Craig Charles on BBC Radio 6, plus BBC Introducing and Jazz FM. They’ve also been championed by major publications including Jazzwise and Songlines, and had their songs included in major editorial playlists across DSPs. To close out 2024, the band embarked on a 10-date tour, including support slots with Seun Kuti at Bristol’s Trinity Centre, and Blue Lab Beats at London’s Hackney Church.
